2015

"They that love beyond the world cannot be separated. Death cannot kill what never dies. Nor can Spirits ever be divided
that love and live in the same Divine Principle; the Root and Record of their Friendship.
Death is but crossing the world, as Friends to the seas; they live in one another still." ~ William Penn

"Raymond" came to DunRoamin' on July 11, 2014 from the Debec area.  He was very thin, not neutered and had a large mass on the left side of his chest. He was estimated to be about 12 years of age. He loves other dogs and cats as well. He appears to be a Husky mix and is looking forward to a nice soft bed to sleep on.  He deserves his last years to be special.

Raymond has come a very long way since his arrival.  He is much happier, healthier, more alert and an even nicer boy than we could have imagined.  He is very attentive and loves to have his attention returned.  He loved being outdoors with his canine friends and is happy to have someone dote on him.   He particularly loved the snow, enjoying himself by rolling in it and pushing his nose into it.  Ray preferred to be outdoors rather than inside, although he certainly enjoyed the company of his friends at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic where he lived.

On February 19, 2015, Ray left us as the result of complications of old age.  We take comfort in the knowledge that we'll see him again at Rainbow Bridge.  In the meantime, we will never forget the smiles and love that he gave us.

"Meade" was observed being struck by a vehicle on the road in Bristol at 8 am, January 18, 2015.  The vehicle kept going, but a kind lady stopped to check on him.  A very nice gentleman also stopped to provide assistance.  Meade was badly injured and had climbed onto a snowbank.  The gentleman recovered him and placed him in a vehicle to be transported to DunRoamin' where their vet immediately attended to help him.

Meade was only about a year old.  His wounds consisted of degloving injuries to his left hind leg and abdomen (an extensive section of skin was completely torn off the underlying tissue). He also had multiple fractures to his left hind leg, his upper left canine tooth was broken and he had extensive and serious injuries to his stomach, rectum and anus.  His injuries were too varied and severe for him to survive.

Meade was a beautiful boy.  He was trusting and knew he was getting help.  We are sad to know he is gone, but happy that such care and assistance was made available to him.  Thanks to all who helped him in his time of need.

"Mr Freeze" came to us on March 28, 2015 from the Muniac area.  He was a five-month old tabby kitten.  A gentleman driving from Hanwell to Perth-Andover happened to notice him on the side of the road and believed he was in distress.  He was brought to the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic where he immediately beame a ward of DunRoamin'.  He was in shock and was barely alive.  He also had severe hypothermia (extremely low body temperature due to the cold temperatures in which he had been trying to survive).  In addition to these problems, an x-ray revealed that his back was broken.

Mr Freeze was warmed and given all medical assistance possible but was unable to overcome his injuries.  We are grateful to the gentleman who brought him in out of the cold and for our vet who provided him with warmth, love and care.  You're safe now at Rainbow Bridge, Mr Freeze.  We'll see you there.

"Finley" came to DunRoamin' on November 13, 2014 from the Florenceville area where she had been seeking shelter at a church on a cold and wet night.  A young lady could not bear to see her cold, wet and hungry and brought her to us.  Finley was a bright-eyed, loving and beautiful little girl who was full of life and love.  On March 15, 2015 she was adopted by a loving family in New Limerick, Maine where she was loved beyond words.  Her dream came true of sleeping with her humans on their bed, which she enjoyed more than everything.  She had achieved her dream and the life she had always hoped she might have.

Sadly, on March 28, 2015, Finley was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), an untreatable condition.  Finley left us that day, but she will be waiting for her family at Rainbow Bridge.  She and all her friends at DunRoamin' are grateful that she was able to experience a home, family and love beyond measure.  We will remember you, Finley, and will see you again.

"Corbin" came to us from the NBSPCA on April 22, 2015.  He and his five siblings were born about April 1, 2015.  All the kittens were thin, scared and had earmites, all of which were treated immediately.

Corbin and his siblings had no mom so were being fed by syringe every few hours around the clock. We're sad to report that Corbin passed away in the early hours of May 2, 2015.  He will be missed.

"Keenan" came to us from the NBSPCA on April 22, 2015.  She and her five siblings were born about April 1, 2015.  All the kittens were thin, scared and had earmites, all of which were treated immediately.

Kennan and her siblings had no mom so had to be fed by syringe every few hours around the clock. Sadly, she was not able to thrive and passed away in the early hours of May 3, 2015.  She is with her brother, Corbin at Rainbow Bridge.

"Jane" came to us on April 22, 2015 when she was rescued by the NBSPCA along with two adults and 12 other kittens.  She was born about February 22, 2015 and is a sweet little girl.  She is very tiny for her age and we'll look forward to seeing how big she grows.

Jane had ear mites, was thin and very scared, as were all her friends, but she is quickly learning what it's like to be loved, cuddled and cared for.

We are sad to report that Jane passed away in the early hours of May 5, 2015.  She was loved in her short time with us and we are grateful to all who helped her.  She is with her friends Keenan and Corbin at Rainbow Bridge.

On May 17, 2015 we received word that a cat was in very bad shape in the Perth-Andover area and no one was available to help him.  The NB SPCA was contacted and on May 18, 2015 an Animal Protection Officer attended to take custody of the little orange cat to ensure he received the medical attention he required.  A DunRoamin’ volunteer drove to Perth to meet the SPCA officer and returned “Pawsome” to Dr Shannon Monteith at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic in Riverbank.  Dr Monteith willingly gave up more than five hours of her “day off” to help Pawsome and immediately began his assessment and care.

Pawsome was about a year and a half old, unneutered and in critical condition.  He emitted an overwhelming odour of infection.  His right front leg was broken, dislocated at the elbow and severely infected from armpit to toes.  Each of his four legs was covered in numerous open infected wounds that were filled with grass and dirt, he had sores under his tongue and open wounds on his neck which had become infected and infested with maggots.  Pawsome weighed only 6.1 pounds and had obviously not eaten in some time, nor was he able to care for himself in any manner.  This condition has probably been ongoing for weeks.  His condition was so deteriorated that exact determination could not be made as to the origin of his wounds.  Perhaps his injuries were sustained by being struck by a vehicle or attacked by an animal.

Despite his pain and his incredibly poor physical condition, Pawsome purred for his vet, perhaps aware that his hopelessness was at an end and he now had a chance.  Dr Monteith began in earnest to cleanse each of his many wounds, rehydrate him with intravenous fluids, administer pain medications and provide him with a chance at life.  Pawsome’s heart faltered several times, but his will to live was strong and his new friends, not at all willing to give up on him, did their best to get him through his first surgery.

Several hours and much intensive care later, clean, warm, bandaged, medicated and with food in his belly, Pawsome was sleeping soundly on a heated bed in the treatment room of the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic, a living testament to the compassion of numerous volunteers whose kindness and willingness to step up make this world a better place for our injured, homeless strays.  They set a fine example for us to emulate and we appreciate them for their kindness and dedication.  Unfortunately, despite all efforts on the part of his new friends, Pawsome was unable to overcome his injuries.

DunRoamin’ and Pawsome would like to thank everyone who had a hand in helping Pawsome, most notably James Parish (SPCA APO), Kerstin Drost (DunRoamin’ Volunteer) and Dr Shannon Monteith (DVM).  Teamwork, caring, compassion.  It matters.

"JR" came to DunRoamin' on May 30, 2015 from Fielding where he, his mom, brother and two sisters were living in a shed all by themselves.  A kind senior citizen was feeding them, but they needed some extra help.  Bobby and his siblings were born about May 18, 2015.

JR and his family were rescued by a very kind and generous lady from Plaster Rock who travelled all this way to pick them up, deliver them and donate generously to ensure they would be spayed, neutered, vaccinated and cared for to the very best level.  JR and his family now have a chance at a wonderful life and will never have to worry about lack of food, disease, danger, cold or any other dangers that might plague small animals who are on their own.  JR would like to thank Dr Monteith at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic who took a personal interest in the welfare of his family and made certain that they would get the life they deserve.

We are sad to report that JR passed away on the morning of May 30, 2015, when his family awoke to find that he was gone.  He was loved.

"Miss Ellie" came to DunRoamin' on May 30, 2015 from Fielding where she, her mom, sister and two brothers were living in a shed all by themselves.  A kind senior citizen was feeding them, but they needed some extra help.  Vanessa and her siblings were born about May 18, 2015.  Her brothers JR and Bobby have already been adopted, although they won't leave for their new home until they're old enough to be away from their mom.

Vanessa and her family were rescued by a very kind and generous lady from Plaster Rock who travelled all this way to pick them up, deliver them and donate generously to ensure they would be spayed, neutered, vaccinated and cared for to the very best level.  Miss Ellie and her family now have a chance at a wonderful life and will never have to worry about lack of food, disease, danger, cold or any other things that plague small animals who are on their own. Vanessa would also like to thank Dr Monteith at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic who took a personal interest in the welfare of her family and made certain that they would get the life they deserve.

On July 9, 2015, Miss Ellie became very ill.  Despite the very best of medical care, she was unable to survive.  She and her brother, JR will be waiting for the rest of us at Rainbow Bridge.  They would like to thank all who had a part in making their short lives as full of love as they were.

"Jed" came to us on April 11, 2015 from a shelter that, due to very high numbers of both cats and dogs, did not have the resources to care for his special needs.  Jed had come to them several months ago, was severely emaciated and had extremely bad earmites.  He was given required medication and lots of food.  He had already been neutered and declawed.  Jed was born about January 1, 2010.

Jed was later noticed to be dragging his right hind leg when he walked and the reason could not be determined.  Jed is a very nice boy.  He's quiet, loving and affectionate.  He's happy to have his soft warm memory foam bed and lots of food to keep his belly full.  He received all possible care and attention, along with some physiotherapy to help with his mobility, which he loved, probably because it involved people touching him!  He loved attention!

Jed loved spending time on our couch in Reception and greeting all our guests and volunteers.  He was an exceptional little boy.  On July 30, 2015, Jed left us due to complications of his medical condition.  We will see him again at Rainbow Bridge.  In the meantime, our Reception area will seem a little more lonely.

"Lloyd" was found near Bath, NB on August 25, 2015.  Only about nine weeks old, this little long-haired grey and white baby was not in good shape.  He was comatose, had neurological symptoms, was emaciated and had fleas and earmites.  He was picked up by a kind lady and brought for help.

Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to help this beautiful little boy and he left us soon after his arrival.  We all thank the lady who tried to help him and we are grateful to her for her kindness and compassion. Lloyd was finally among friends who loved him, if only for a short time.

"Elizabeth" came to DunRoamin' on September 14, 2015 from the Beechwood area where she had been found on a doorstep.  She was born about July 7, 2015.

Elizabeth was in very bad shape.  She was hypoglycemic (abnormally low level of blood sugar), hypothermic (very low body temperature), emaciated (starving), dehydrated (not enough water in her body) and she had fleas.  It was only the skill of her very dedicated and experienced vet that enabled her to awaken later in the day.

We are sad to report that all valiant efforts initiated to help her were unsuccessful and she left us in the wee hours of September 15, 2015. We are grateful that she knew love, compassion and warmth for the last hours of her life.  We thank her vet and the technician who put their all into helping her.  We'll see her again at Rainbow Bridge.

"Dave" and his brothers Jim, Ottie and Nekid John came to us on September 5, 2015 from the Oakland area where they had been abandoned in a cardboard box on the side of the road.  A kind man had conscientiously thought to look in the box on that hot afternoon - there was no shade for them and they were thirsty and hungry.  Their eyes were just beginning to open, so they were approximately a week old. Three separate foster families have stepped up to help care for the little ones.  Sadly, Dave left us in the early morning hours of September 22, 2015.  He knew love, warmth, compassion and had a nice bed and a full belly and we know he is grateful to all who helped him and his siblings.  He will be waiting for all his friends and family at Rainbow Bridge.

"Geraldine" came to us on October 5, 2015 from the Jacksonville area where she was found as a hungry stray.  She was able to attempt to run away from her rescuers at first, but only hours later she was unable to stand.  She appears to have been born about 2003.

Geraldine was examined at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic where she underwent x-rays and bloodwork.  She was emaciated, dehydrated, had a cauliflower ear, missing a toe, had facial tremors and several other problems.  She was in serious condition but was warm, safe, fed and getting the best  care possible.

Unfortunately, not all our wishes come true.  Geraldine was unable to overcome her afflictions, even with the best of love and medical care.  She left us in the early afternoon of October 8, 2015.  She is now running playfully and sleeping in the warm sunshine at Rainbow Bridge.  We'll see her again there.

"Jason" came to DunRoamin' from the Hartland area on October 22, 2015 where he, his mom and three other kittens were trying to survive on their own. They had no one to feed them or provide adequate shelter.  One of the kittens, Trisara, was missing part of her hind leg.  Jason was initially a bit timid but he learned quickly that his new friends will give him warmth, food, friendship and shelter.  Sadly, Jason left us on the evening of November 19, 2015.  His foster parents have written a remembrance of this beautiful boy.  He was fortunate to have them in his life and we are grateful for their love and care.

"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of little Jason. His life was a short one but in the time he had he knew great joy having been in the company of his brother and sister his whole life. He loved to sit perched on the arm of the couch at his foster parents' house and was very content to sit there and watch his siblings play, occasionally joining in on a bit of the roughhousing. Always eager to gorge himself on his dinner and then have a nap curled up in his foster parent's arms, he brought great joy to all the wonderful volunteers at DunRoamin' and his foster parents alike. He will be missed. People often wonder if animals have souls. If you have ever had and lost a pet, then I am sure you know the answer. May the joy the memories bring continue to overshadow the sadness."

"Lawless" came to us on November 5, 2015 from the Woodstock area when she was found after having been abandoned by her mother.  She had been born about October 22, 2015, so was only about two weeks old - much to young to survive on her own.

Lawless lived in a foster home where her foster mother fed her with a tiny bottle and stimulated her to use the bathroom until she was old enough to do all these things on her own.  Lawless purred even at such a young age, no doubt very much aware of how her life had changed when she was found.

On November 26, 2015 her foster mother who had been caring for her every single day since her arrival decided (as we all knew she would!) that she must become a permanent member of their family where she is loved and prized as she deserved.

On December 10, 2015, we were sad to learn that Lawless had passed away.  We are grateful that she knew such love while she was with us and that she had a wonderful family to care for her.  We'll see her again at Rainbow Bridge.

"Mikey" came to DunRoamin' on February 4, 2013 from Jacksonville where he was a stray who was found by a lady who took him in. However, when it was determined that he had medical issues, he was no longer wanted.

Mikey experienced sudden weight loss and was discovered to have a thyroid issue as well as being anemic. He was born sometime in 2002 and had never been neutered.  Mikey requires medication to control his thyroid and he's doing fine. He loves to follow people around to get the most attention from them that he possibly can!  He particularly enjoys the company of other cats, and most recently he and Gouchie have become best buddies.

On December 12, 2015, Mikey left us.  He suffered kidney failure, despite all care he has received.  We're grateful for the chance to have known him and for all the love he gave us.  We will be happy to see you again at Rainbow Bridge, Mikey.  In the meantime, enjoy the warm sun and cool grass when you curl up with some of your old DunRoamin' friends.  We miss you all.
